Michael O'Malley, JD, CPA


  • Michael O'Malley serves as the Executive Director and General Counsel of the Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB). Before his service at PTAB, Mr. O'Malley served as an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney (ASA) in the Real Estate Tax Unit and the Felony Trial Division, where he litigated hundreds of bench trials and evidentiary hearings, and over twenty-five jury trials. Mr. O'Malley held several positions at the State's Attorney's office, including Deputy Supervisor of the Civil Rights Litigation Section where he oversaw a team of 15 attorneys, and as an ASA in the Public Corruption Unit of the Special Prosecutions Bureau. Before joining the State's Attorney's Office, Mr. O'Malley worked for several financial services companies, including JP Morgan Chase and Co., and the Northern Trust Company. Mr. O'Malley is a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois and a Registered Certified Public Accountant.
  • Mr. O'Malley is a graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, earned his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Northern Illinois University and his law degree from (UIC) John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
  • Mr. O'Malley has given continuing legal education presentations on Trial Advocacy and Real Estate Tax Appeals. Mr. O'Malley is a member of several bar associations and volunteers his time at several charitable organizations.
